Stone River Ranch's riding program is guided by accomplished instructors who bring safety, experience, and an integrated approach to every lesson. Our team honors both horse and rider, creating a foundation built on trust and skill. Train across world-class facilities with premium footing: an 80 x 200 indoor arena, 66 x 132 outdoor dressage arena, and a 110 x 220 outdoor jump arena. Beyond the arenas, Stone River Ranch has over 350 acres of scenic trails and pastures.

Riding Lessons Designed Around You and Your Goals

Our carefully selected lesson horses receive premium care and are chosen for their calm temperaments, solid training, and overall well-being. These confidence-building partners are perfectly suited for adult amateurs and first-time riders alike. Our English riding lessons form the foundation of good horsemanship and centered riding principles - from grooming to riding - in an environment that nurtures the bond between horse and rider.

Riding Lessons

What you Need to Know before your First lesson

    • Riding breeches, long pants or leggings

    • Paddock boots or hard, closed toe shoes

    • Riding helmet (ATSM approved)

Stone River Ranch has a limited number of helmets to borrow and can provide a helmet for the initial evaluation. If riding regularly, it will be the riders’ responsibility to bring their own helmet as proper fit is very important.

  • We recommend you plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled lesson time so there is time to settle in prior to the start of the lesson. If you do not immediately see your instructor, please wait in the indoor viewing room, where you are welcome to relax, grab a snack, make yourself a hot cup of coffee or tea and your instructor will come find you when ready for your lesson.

  • Our farm address is 36879 Mountville Rd, Middleburg VA. There are 2 entrances to the farm, both with a blue round sign by the road that says “Stone River Ranch at Bolinvar.” If you are coming from the Snickersville Turnpike direction, you will take a left at the second sign. If you are coming from Foxcroft Rd, you will take a right at the first sign. Once you enter you will be driving on a gravel driveway (if it is paved you will know you are at the wrong entrance.) You will drive by horse paddocks and then see a pond on your left and a barn on your right. You will keep driving straight until you see a large white barn in front of you. This is your destination and there should be ample parking in front.

Once you arrive, come into the barn and find the indoor viewing room. You will walk straight towards the indoor arena and right before the arena on your left you will walk up a few steps into the indoor viewing room.
